Pose star Janet Mock has announced that she will make her directorial debut with Janet. The film will tell the story of Janet Cooke, a former Washington Post journalist. Most notably, Cooke penned a Pulitzer Prize winning article called “Jimmy’s World” in 1980. Cooke’s piece illustrated the story of a teenager who preferred doing heroin rather than going to school. Unfortunately, it was proven that she made the entire story up.
“I began my career as a journalist, dreaming of telling stories that mattered for a living,” Mock told Deadline.
“I am thrilled to partner with Netflix for my feature debut, centered on a young [B]lack woman at the Washington Post and her ambitious and complicated quest to make the front page–no matter what,” she added.
Mock has not announced a release date or cast for the film yet.
