Singer/ Songwriter, Janelle Monae has revealed that the title of her forthcoming album will be called Electric Lady — lead by the title track. The genre-bending artist broke the news in the September issue of Vanity Fair, along with why she continues to sport black and white (“You could time travel, you could go all over the world, it won’t ever go out of style…I know what I like”), her musical influences (Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye) and what drove her to become to performer.
Although Monae’s debut album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III), was met with critical acclaim and even received a Grammy nomination, it only managed to push 140,000 domestically. Undoubtedly her recent #1 hit with fun., ‘We Are Young,’ has introduced her to a whole new audience, who may be more attentive to her music going forward.
