Though he was restricted, forward JaMychal Green was one of the few remaining free agents from this busy offseason. However, Green has now also found his niche for the foreseeable future as the 27-year-old is staying put in Memphis and will remain a member of the Grizzlies. Green is finalizing a 2 year, $17M deal with the team according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania:

While this may not be a big contract or a big name to go along with it, this move will end up being an underrated signing and a bargain for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Though Zach Randolph had been the cog at power forward for the Grizz for years on end, age was starting to catch up to him and he saw his role changed, as he largely came off the bench these last two years. Instead, Memphis turned to Green to hold down the 4 spot and he has done a serviceable job filling in the shoes of ZBo. Now with Randolph out of the picture after signing a deal with the Sacramento Kings earlier this summer, the Grizzlies are more desperate than ever at that position.
Retaining Green for at least two years was a brilliant move as he will go into training camp as the only true power forward on this Memphis roster and hope to provide quality numbers in his expanded role alongside Marc Gasol in that Grizzlies frontcourt.
