Let’s go hypothetical for a moment. If money wasn’t one of the main reasons for nearly every Rookie College player opting in for that Draft, do you think that James Young would’ve left College?
I don’t think so, sometimes I look at players and go “you really need another year in College” but then I tell myself “The College game is not great” and I end up biting my lip on it all.
James Young had a very hard Rookie season, he wasn’t ready and it showed. But, he’s still there and is looking to get better as his team is.
“Last year, I just wasn’t thinking straight about the game,” Young said. “Now, I feel like I’m by that and I can just play my game.”
Young expanded on the not “thinking straight” acknowledgement by saying, “Hesitating, going back and forth to the D-League, off the court issues with my mom, family stuff. Everything’s caught up now, so I’m good.”
Asked the nature of those issues, Young said, “Just an overload. There was a lot on my shoulders at a young age.”
“You’ve just got to go through it,” Young said of the first-year shakedown cruise. “It’s different. But I’ve been through it now and there’s no going back. I’m just looking to the future. I’m just trying to get there slowly but surely now. I’m not trying to be an individual player. I’m just trying to be a team player.”
If he can be a good team player, he’ll do fine. Because they Celtics are relying on good team chemistry and teamwork, they don’t have a star so they’re hoping that they all play well as if they have a big 3. Young has some competition all around him so he better get some thicker skin and kick some behinds.
