Yesterday, the NBA world was treated to watching the spectacle that is Russell Westbrook. After surpassing NBA legend Oscar Robinson with his 42nd triple-double of the season, Westbrook ended his night by hitting the game-winning three at the buzzer against the Denver Nuggets.
A few hours later, James Harden, Westbrooks old running mate, took the floor against the Sacremento Kings and effortlessly put up a triple-double of his own in a 135-128 victory. However, Harden’s triple-double was seamlessly overshadowed by Westbrook’s big day. After the game, Harden was asked about his performance and the MVP race.
Following from Calvin Watkins of ESPN.
“I think that’s the most important thing. I thought winning is what this is about — period,” Harden said after recording his 21st triple-double of the season in the Rockets’ win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. “I’m not going to get in-depth with all that, but I thought winning was the most important thing. If you set your team up in a position to have a chance, at the ultimate goal, that’s the most important thing.”
However, Harden made it a point of emphasis to congratulate Westbrook for his record-breaking day and there was no love loss for the former teammates.
“It’s a huge accomplishment,” Harden said of Westbrook, whom he’s close friends with. “He’s been playing extremely well all season long, it’s never been done before, it’s a great individual accomplishment, and it’s great.”
With the season very close to ending, the MVP race has risen to the highest of proportions and will be interesting to see who wins.
