Kevin McHale was recently a panelist on NBATV’s ‘Open Floor’ show and he opened up about a former player he used to coach on the Houston Rockets. James Harden, who just signed the largest contract extension in NBA history over the summer, was criticized by McHale. The former Boston Celtics legend said Harden is not a leader because it’s ‘not in his character’.
Criticisms from a former coach about a former player are not anything new in the new media world. You often hear fired coaches (Byron Scott, George Karl, Mark Jackson) open up and attempt to expose their former players. As expected, Harden responded in a strong way and said McHale is a clown and he’s a little bitter about how he exited Houston.
Following comes from Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Harden could be right in thinking that McHale is a little bitter about his firing from Houston. His departure from the Rockets was odd, to say the least, following a string of successful years. But either way, McHale took a shot at Harden and ‘The Beard’ didn’t back down.
