James Franco is in negotiations to direct the origin story of the rise of one of the biggest sports network and conglomerates in the world, ESPN. The movie will be based on the James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales that offered an exhaustive chronicle of the birth of the now ubiquitous sports network told through some 500 interviews with current and former staffers, according to THR.
Franco won’t be starring in the film himself but he has had no problem directing big movies in the past, especially with the success of his recent film ‘The Disaster Artist’. The project is titled ‘Those Guys Have All The Fun: Inside The World Of ESPN’ and while there is no indication as to how Franco will be adapting the book, we can all bet that it will have a quirky tone to it like any other Franco directed movie has.
The film will be a focus features production and there is no release date attached but as soon as Franco officially signs on to direct, the wheels will start rolling for the production company.
