This is an interesting story, only because it is a rare occurrence. If your up to date with Miami Heat news, you know that James Ennis is teetering between being on the team for next season and being like Shabazz Napier and Zoran Dragic.
So, in a smart move by Ennis, he has allowed the Miami Heat to wait until the start of the regular season to judge whether to give him his money or not.
Ennis originally had a Saturday deadline for the Heat to either guarantee half of his $845,000 2015-16 salary or release him. Instead, two sources involved in the process told the Sun Sentinel that the contract will be modified with no decision required until the eve of the season, when the Heat will have to decide to guarantee his salary for all of 2015-16.
The move with Ennis effectively eliminates Saturday as a contract deadline for the Heat. Forward Henry Walker, who had such a partial-guarantee deadline, was waived Monday. The partial guarantees for center Hassan Whiteside and Tyler Johnson for Aug. 1 will be paid as scheduled on Saturday.
Now this gives Ennis a chance to prove himself, because the Heat have to decide whether to keep him or not. We’ll see come the start of the season whether James Ennis will be on the Heat roster.
