The Charlotte Hornets have announced that they are parting ways with Head Coach James Borrego. Despite showing significant improvement in the number of wins, the team once again failed to make the NBA Playoffs under the leadership of their Head Coach. In four seasons as the Head Coach of the Charlotte Hornets, they failed to make the playoffs and finished fourth in the Southeast Division three out of the four times. The organization felt it was time for a change in the coaching staff.
Charlotte suffered blowout losses in both postseason games, which appears to have negated regular season win improvement and player development among Miles Bridges, LaMelo Ball and previously Devonte Graham.

In those four seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, James Borrego coached the team to an overall record of 138-163. This past season was their first year finishing with a winning record under Borrego with a final record of 43-39. The Charlotte Hornets believe they have a future superstar in LaMelo Ball and winning with him early in his career is important. Getting him the right coach followed up by the right talent is vital for the organization.

Making the NBA Playoffs is the name of the game and James Borrego was not able to do that. Two play-in games in back-to-back years resulted in embarrassing blowout losses. This seemed to be the final determining factor for the Hornets despite the regular-season wins and the young player development on the roster. Matching up a coach with LaMelo Ball’s style of play is a top priority and then the rest of the puzzle pieces can fall into place for the team.
