It isn’t an everyday occurrence when you’re embarking on being a top draft pick in the NFL Draft to continue playing the sport you love and getting paid for it. To add onto this it definitely isn’t a regular circumstance when the leader in footwear and apparel signs you to their brand for an endorsement deal.
Well former Heisman trophy winners Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota can say both of these instances are true events for them. While both are considerably high picks at the quarterback position for this upcoming 2015 NFL Draft they have reportedly just inked deals with the Swoosh, Nike.
Mariota who played for Oregon should feel right at home given the Ducks already have a long lasting relationship with Nike. As for Winston hopefully the off-field distractions won’t hurt his draft stock significantly but it seems as if a company like Nike is willing to take a chance on Winston, I don’t see why a team would be reluctant to take that same risk. As of right now it is being projected that Jameis could be taken at the # 1 pick but lets see what happens come draft night.
As of right now the financial aspect concerning each of their respective deals has yet to be disclosed.
Not to mention there were a few more Nike endorsements signed; wide receiver Amari Cooper from Alabama, running back Todd Gurley from Georgia and tailback Melvin Gordon from Wisconsin. Not too shabby by Nike to go ahead and snag two top quarterbacks, two top running backs and one of the top potential draftees at the wide receiver position.
Looks like a good day at the office for Nike if you ask me.
