Jamal Lewis recently sold his Superbowl ring for $50,820. While this seems like a non story the ring Lewis sold was one he was not apart of. Lewis did not play on the 2012 Superbowl team but owner Steve Bisciotti was generous enough to give him one. The financial issues that surrounded the former runningback forced the sale. The Ravens later issued this response.
“Jamal Lewis informed us that he was forced to sell the Super Bowl XLVII ring due to financial difficulties. We understand and respect his decision,”
Jamal Lewis is the greatest runningback in team history with rushing for 2,066 yards in 2003. A ring worth 3.75 carrots worth of diamonds should have never left Lewis’ possession. The financial trouble of retired athletes is an issue that fails to go away.
Jamal was inducted into the ring of honor in 2012, while also filing bankruptcy the same year.
