Los Angeles Clippers have struggled as of late and haven’t performed up to expectations. In their last contest against the Miami Heat at home, every player on the Clippers bench struggled. Crawford had a 1-for-9 shooting day and the other 2 main rotation players, Jordan Farmar and Spencer Hawes, struggled as well shooting 4-11 from the field. The trio of key bench players for the Clippers had a +/- average of -11.3. Then to put the cherry on top, the Heat bench was helped by Hassan Whiteside’s career high 23 points and outscored the Clippers bench, 37-15.
The struggles are real in Clipper land as they aren’t in the top 4 in the West and are under-performing. The star from the Clippers bench, former sixth man of the year Jamal Crawford, is surprised by it and is not exactly happy.
From Dan Woike of the OC Register:
“Yeah, I’m surprised,” Jamal Crawford said. “It’s just a little frustrating. We’ve shown that we can have those streaks where everything is clicking, we know what we’re going to do and things work for us.
“More times then not, it’s gone the other way.”
Crawford needs to take command and get something going for the Clippers bench. With the reported impending acquisition of Clippers President and Coach Doc Rivers’ son, Austin, to the team there might be young help on the way. At the end of the day though, Crawford is one of the greatest bench players in the history of the NBA and he’ll need to play accordingly if the Clippers want to find success.
