Nearly 20,000 screaming fans packed into American Airlines Center on Saturday, August 5 as Jake Paul met Nate Diaz in the ring for a 10-round bout. From the opening bell to the closing seconds of the match, both men threw and received a number of big blows. In the end, Paul was able to outclass and knock down the former UFC star en route to a unanimous decision victory. All three judges delivered the following scores in favor of the YouTube star: 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.
“It was fun and I knew he was trying to take breaks so I would pounce on him when he was doing that. We were talking to each other the whole fight,” Paul said on Saturday night in Dallas, Texas.
“When you’re in there with another dog, you can sense it. It just makes the sport more fun and this fight was probably the most memorable yet.”
With the win, Paul improves to 7-1 with four knockouts. Furthermore, he improves to 5-0 against former UFC fighters, including Anderson Silva, Tyrone Woodley, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. In the future, the Ohio native could step into the octagon and participate in the PFL’s Super Fight Division.
“I want Nate Diaz in MMA,” Paul said after the fight.
“Yeah, I think I would fight him. It’s easy to take him down. Two, three, four months [from now], I’m ready to rock. We’re going to talk,” Diaz answered when asked if he would accept Paul’s challenge.
