John Ryder will challenge unbeaten super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia on Saturday, January 27 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Munguia enters the super middleweight contest with a perfect record of 42-0 with 33 knockouts. Most recently, he battled Sergiy Derevyanchenko to a unanimous decision victory at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. Beforehand, he was able to win seven of his previous eight fights by unanimous decision.
“Jaime Munguia … finally we got it done,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya told DAZN.
“Jaime Munguia vs. Ryder — the guy who went the distance with Canelo, so imagine his position. Imagine what he’s thinking, Jaime Munguia — ‘I want to knock out Ryder, what Canelo could not do.’ That will be a huge statement.”
John Ryder enters the super middleweight showdown with a record of 32-6 with 18 knockouts. In his most recent outing, he lost to undisputed super middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by unanimous decision. Prior to his meeting with Alvarez, Ryder won four consecutive bouts against the likes of Zach Parker, Daniel Jacobs, Jozef Jurko and Mike Guy.
“[I’m] pleased to say it’s happening. [On] January 27th [in] Phoenix, Arizona, it all goes down,” Ryder added.
