Former Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best has qualified to run track for Saint Lucia’s Olympic track team. He will be competing in the 100m dash for the country in which his father was born.
Posting a 10.16 time, Best passed the Olympic qualifying time on April 2nd. By doing so, he becomes the first athlete with prior NFL experience to compete in the Olympics. The country he will be representing, Saint Lucia, is a small island in the Caribbean with a population of only 174,000.
Best was a first-round pick out of California by the Lions back in 2010. He was the fastest back at the Combine that year, and was selected with the 30th overall pick. He only played two seasons in the NFL due to concussions. During that span, he rushed for 945 yards and 6 touchdowns.
