Jacob Blake has reportedly been released from a hospital in Wisconsin and has entered a spinal rehabilitation center in Chicago. It is unclear what Blake’s physical state is at this time or how long he will be in the rehab facility. His attorney has declined to comment on Blake’s health at this time.
Prior to being released from the hospital, Blake’s family had said that he was paralyzed from the waist down. His attorney Ben Crump added that it would be a “miracle” if he ever walked again.
Blake is currently recovering from a police encounter that took place in Kenosha Wisconsin on August 23. Video of the incident shows Blake returning to a Black SUV as officers trail behind him. He appears to be unarmed, but officers have claimed that they found a knife at the scene of the shooting. As he neared the van that his children were inside, Blake was shot multiple times in the back.
Prior to the shooting, officers have claimed that Blake engaged with them. A Kenosha police union has claimed that Blake put an officer in a headlock and threatened others with a knife. However, there is no footage of that taking place.
Blake and his family are currently weighing legal action in response to the shooting.
