
Cleveland Cavaliers swingman J.R. Smith is known for his often outlandish antics on the court. He’s a fun loving guy who sometimes does whatever he wants and most of the time, it comes out looking fantastic for him. Smith has been known to cash some deep three’s put down some nasty dunks and even tie some shoes from time to time. But in a recent interview, Smith opened up like never before.
J.R. Smith and his wife Shirley were dealt with some tough news earlier this year. As Smith was coming back from a broken hand, his wife went into labor a little earlier than anticipated. Dakota was born premature but her journey to survive started that day.
In this recent interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, J.R. Smith and his wife spoke about the harrowing mission to keep her alive. It’s been a few months now and as the 2017 NBA Finals get underway, Smith decided to tell his story. It’s a dramatic tale with many trips to the hospital and decisions about keeping a precious life pushing through the adversity.
