New York Knicks have struggled. We all know this early on in the season. They have one of the bottom 5 records in the league up to this point. They now stand at 2-7 after a loss to the Orlando Magic.
The loss came with some, let’s just say, controversy.
3 seconds left in the game and its Knicks ball. They struggled all game against the Magic and couldn’t stop Evan Fournier who had a career high game in scoring with 28 points.
Magic rookie Aaron Gordon was defending Carmelo Anthony when he was posted up at the elbow, a very “Melo-Like” spot to create a shot. Anthony would have been left to try and draw a foul or attempt a fadeaway and with Gordon’s recent defensive struggles, it wasn’t a bad matched. There are few Anthony shots that are bad looks out of the post and he might have had a good chance at it. Smith was able to create enough separation to shoot for the win but he chucked up a prayer that clanged off the backboard.
J.R. Smith to Ian Begley of ESPN.com.
“I think we went with the best shot. I think it was the right shot, and I just didn’t make it. If I forced that into (Anthony), what kind of shot is he really going to have?”
Well. I think Melo taking the last shot is always a good look. According to Melo though, he didn’t have too much of an issue with it.
Melo to Ian Begley again.
“Of course I want it, Whether he could have got it to me or not, that’s a different question. (Smith), he had an open shot, or thought he had an open shot. That was that.”
