The Los Angeles Clippers most recent first round exodus might be the last in their current construction. With Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and J.J. Redick heading for free agency things may never be the same for them. And, according to Broderick Turner of the LA Times, J.J. is likely headed out of town.
J.J. Redick will become an unrestricted free agent when the season is over. He earned $7.3 million this season and is looking for a big pay raise.
Redick, 32, could get a deal from another team for $18-$20 million per season, and that may be too high for the Clippers to swallow, meaning their shooting guard would walk, as most NBA officials expect him to do.
This is far from a sure thing and Redick has yet to confirm he is leaving but the Clippers need to do something about this group of players. This may be via trade, free agency, or simply moving on but something has to be done. The Jazz’s core of John Stockton and Karl Malone even had to go through a couple roster’s before finding the one that worked and got them to multiple Finals.
Getting rid of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin would be a tough pill to swallow but swapping out guys like J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan, and Mo Speights might not be a bad idea. The Clippers offseason is set to be an intriguing one, no matter what decision is made.
