J.J Barea has been somewhat of a blessing for the Mavericks, he gets them out of tight situations. He helped them take the NBA championship in 2011, and when Rondo was out this year, he didn’t embarrass the Mavericks.
According to Tim McMahon of ESPN:
A source said Barea is hoping to sign a two- or three-year deal that would pay an annual salary in the $3 million range.
The Mavs will undoubtedly have a hometown advantage in the Barea contract discussions this summer. He doesn’t attempt to deny that.
“I want to [come back], and hopefully this time we make it work,” Barea said. “I had a lot of fun this year. I enjoyed being back. It feels like home for me here in Dallas, so hopefully I can come back and finish my career here for the next couple years.”
The Dallas Mavericks need to re-collect their troops after a horrible Playoff run against the more prepared and well oiled Houston Rockets. The Mavericks will need to look to the free agents like DeAndre Jordan or LaMarcus Aldridge. I mean imagine Dirk Nowitzki coming off the bench? Another thing the Mavericks have to worry about is the point guard for the future. Rondo will be leaving come off-season time, and Barea may not be capable of leading a championship team.
The Dallas Mavericks and Mark Cuban have a lot of work to do this off-season.
