Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae are set to star in a romantic comedy that has just been picked up by Paramount Pictures. Michael Showalter, who directed ‘The Big Sick’, one of Nanjiani’s most successful films, will reunite with the actor for ‘The Lovebirds’.
Written by Aaron Abrams and Brendan Gall as well as Martin Gero, the script centers on a couple (Nanjiani and Rae) on the brink of a breakup. The pair subsequently become embroiled in a bizarre and hijinks-filled murder mystery, and as they get close to clearing their names and solving the case, the twosome need to figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
The film is set to start production in January and reportedly, they’re looking to finish this movie quickly. Both Nanjiani and Rae are busy bee’s in Hollywood. Nanjiani is a star on ‘Silicon Valley’ and Rae has been the star of HBO’s Insecure. With their acting chops, we can bet this will be a good movie.
