Isiah Thomas Is widely known for his Detroit Pistons days. Being the leader of the Bad Boys that terrorized the NBA. But when Isiah is mentioned with the city of New York. It’s not exactly covered in glory.
When he was with the Knicks in 07. He was forced to leave. The reason being that he was part of a sexual harassment scandal. But despite the scandal. Not far off 10 years on. He’s back in New York. But not for the Knicks. Oh no. He is now the President and part owner of WNBA franchise. New York Liberty.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the New York Liberty and help the franchise reclaim its position as one of the elite teams in the WNBA,” Thomas said in a statement.
“He asked me about coming to the Liberty and working with the Liberty and I gave it some thought,” Thomas said. “And we got to the point where I was comfortable enough to accept the role.”
Thomas added that he hasn’t consulted with Dolan on the Knicks recently.
“Just the Liberty,” he said.
If you’re reading that and going “wait. Not THAT Dolan” I’m sorry to say yes. It is that James Dolan. But you know what? I don’t think the two New York franchises are going to suffer anymore. With Phil Jackson leading the Knicks and Isiah Thomas leading the Liberty. It certainly sounds good on paper. Just have to wait and see if the paper becomes reality. But everybody hold up a minute. The WNBA still need to give the thumbs up. And according to Lindsey Adler of BuzzFeed. They’re not going to give him part ownership just yet. Seems that some hoops have to be jumped through first.
