The Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards have had some impassioned match ups so far this year. After regular season kerfuffles disrupted the two teams relationship the playoffs have just heightened the animosity. So far that has played out by the two teams accruing eight technical fouls and three ejections in just 3 games.
According to Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press, Isaiah Thomas acknowledged the ill will between the two teams following game 3.
“I guess that’s playoff basketball,”
“We don’t like them and they don’t like us.”
The playoffs are known for their high stress and increased emotions. Most of the NBA’s most violent moments have come during the playoffs. That now includes a scuffle between a charging Kelly Oubre and a flopping Kelly Olynyk. Following the incident that ultimately led to Oubre’s ejection, Scott Brooks had this to say.
“We can’t respond that way,”
“When you keep getting hit in the head, you might respond that way and I think that’s what he did. I’m not saying that that was the right thing to do. We have to focus on playing basketball.”
The Wizards depth has already been an issue in this series. The Celtics have dominated the 2nd-4th quarters while Washington’s backups have wilted. The last thing they need is even less guys to play. But, don’t expect these two teams to let up on one another any time soon.
