Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas left his team to fly home to Washington after their closeout victory in Chicago over the Bulls. The circumstances that led to Thomas’ visit home were tragic; his younger sister, 22-year-old Chyna, was involved in a fatal single-car car accident on April 15. Thomas spoke at the funeral, and allowed himself to break down:

“When I found out the news I wanted to give up and quit. And never in my life have I ever thought about quitting,” Thomas said, choking up.” “For most of our lives, Chyna was right by my side,” Thomas continued. “I realized quitting isn’t an option, that’s the easy way out. I will keep going for my sister, as I know she wouldn’t want me to stop. I love you Chyna, and I miss you so much. And everything I do for the rest of my life will be for you. I love you girl.”
Thomas has shown incredible resilience for the Celtics, playing the day after his sister’s death, and playing every game since.
Thomas led the Celtics to a first-round victory over the Bulls, and a win in game 1 against the Washington Wizards. Game 2 will be in Boston on Thursday
