Isaiah Thomas is one of the more exciting guards in the NBA, leading the Boston Celtics in scoring this past season and even getting a selection to the 2016 NBA All-Star game, the first of his career.
Thomas has often been vocal on social media, expressing his interest in Kevin Durant in particular but with recent news of NBA players dropping out of consideration for Team USA, Thomas decided to step up. He wants to be considered for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Isaiah Thomas tweeted the following.
I wish I could get a chance to play on the USA team! Looking at the history of it I've never seen a small guard get selected 2 even try out

I guess Isaiah Thomas forgot about Allen Iverson on the Olympic team in the mid-2000s?
With guys like Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and John Wall all removing their names from consideration for one reason or another, the point guard depth is rather thin for the USA olympic team. Thomas might not make the cut but he could be a good guard that might work well going up against the expected point guard rotation of Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard.
