Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas does not lack confidence. He told Amanda Pflugrad of Celtics.com that he believes he has shown, and will continue to show, that he’s right up there with the NBA’s most elite talent at his position:
“All I’m going to say is men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.” Thomas said. “My numbers stack up against all those other guys, those other top superstar guys, I guess you’d say. At the end of the day, I’m just going to continue to work and continue to show that I’m just as good as any other point guard in the NBA.”
I very much enjoy watching Thomas play. He’s one of the quicker players in the league, and is an extraordinarily crafty scorer, whether it’s his finishing at the rim or his pull-up midrange jump shot. Thomas is a top-ten point guard in the league, which is all the more impressive when you take his 5’9″ stature into account. To say that he’s in the same league as point guards like Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, or Chris Paul is empirically false. However, you want your star player to believe that he’s the best; confidence is imperative to success in sports.
