With the Cleveland Cavaliers currently in a serious rut, the Boston Celtics have moved up to the top spot in the Eastern Conference. With 48 wins and 26 losses, the Celtics now have a home-court advantage come playoff time if they are able to stay ahead of the Cavs. Isaiah Thomas clearly has his eyes on bigger things, however.
The 5 foot 9 point guard has had a spectacular season thus far averaging 29.1 points per game, 5.9 assists on 46% shooting and is the driving force behind the Celts offense. When he was asked about the Celtics being the number one seed, he acknowledged the significance but indicated they have higher aspirations.
Isaiah Thomas: Being at top of East is “cool,” but “we’re chasing something bigger than that.” pic.twitter.com/GXZXQf5DOf

The Celtics now have “control of their own destiny” when it comes to home-court advantage in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out in the East. Home-court is a huge edge in all playoff series and would be an interesting aspect in a potential Cavaliers vs. Celtics Eastern Conference Finals. Look for LeBron and the Cavs to push hard to get ahead of Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics.
