Nearly two years ago, Instapaper was acquired by Pinterest and for a short period of time they have existed under their leadership. However, they have decided that it was time to make a change and go independent. Earlier today, Instapaper announced in a blog post that a new company called Insta Paper, Inc. has been formed to oversee the company. The company is primarily made up of people who have worked with Instapaper since its birth in 2013.
Insta Paper, Inc. is giving its users a three week grace period to decide what they would like to do in regards to their personal information. While Instapaper did not give much of an explanation to the switch, many think it may have something to do with the service’s desire to become GDPR. compliant Instapaper has been offline in the EU for nearly two months now because of its inability to become GDPR compliant under the jurisdiction of Pinterest.
In Instapaper’s lengthy blog post, the bookmarking service assured users that it would still continue to provide the same quality of service it always. The tech start up writes, “We want to emphasize that not much is changing for the Instapaper product outside the new ownership. The product will continue to be built and maintained by the same people who’ve been working on Instapaper for the past five years. We plan to continue offering a robust service that focuses on readers and the reading experience for the foreseeable future.”
The company will move to leadership next month
