HBO has announced that Issa Rae’s Insecure will return for a fifth season. The announcement was made public just days before the show hit the midway point of its successful fourth season.
“We’re thrilled that Issa, Prentice [Penny], and the whole Insecure team will be getting back together for a fifth season,” HBO Executive Programming VP Amy Gravitt said.
“As we laugh and cringe with recognition, their stories make us all feel a little less alone in the world,” Gravitt added.
The renewal extends Rae’s extensive partnership with the network. Last year, she produced the first season of A Black Lady Sketch Show. Much like Insecure, the show was renewed for yet another season.
Adding on to her work with HBO, Rae is also working on a limited series called The Dolls, which will chronicle the Cabbage Patch dolls craze of the 1980’s. She is also the co-star of the upcoming comedy film, The Lovebirds, which is set to hit Netflix later this year.
While Rae continues to work on her next big hit, Insecure will return to HBO this Sunday at 10 p.m.
