Actor, rapper, philanthropist and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda has dropped the official trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of In The Heights. The film stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Jimmy Smits, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera and many others. While Miranda served as musical composer and producer, Jon M. Chu acted as the film’s director.
Like the Broadway play, the film centers around a second generation immigrant in Washington Heights over three days. As the character, Usnavi, says, “It’s the story of a block that was disappearing.” He adds, “The streets were made of music.”
Throughout, the film will also deal with topics of race, economic status and gentrification. The original play created buzz on Broadway late last decade and went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed plays of our time.
The film adaptation of In The Heights will hit theaters this June. While we wait, check out the trailer for the upcoming film.
