Important Technologies Your Car Should Have To Keep You Safe On The Road

In 2018, over 36,500 lives were lost in fatal car accidents in the US. That’s thousands upon thousands of lives lost, all of which could have been easily prevented. Technology has many benefits, but by far the most substantial of them all is the lives it can save through advancements made in safety technologies. In this article, you can find out about many of the things outside of a seatbelt that can keep you safe while traveling from point A to point B.

Cameras

These days, it’s never a bad idea to have a dashboard camera. If your safety is ever compromised behind the wheel, a camera could be the difference between having no eye-witnesses to testify in court, or have recorded evidence of the situation. The professionals behind www.herrmanandherrman.com/ say that if you ever find yourself in the middle of a fender bender or serious altercation, then do not engage with the other driver until authorities arrive. You need to call a lawyer immediately to prevent the situation from getting worse. If this happens, it’s best to have these types of cameras in your car.

Backup Camera

A backup camera can detect objects and people behind your car and will notify you if anything is in your path while you’re backing up. This protects not only your vehicle from backing over things that could damage your car but also those who are most vulnerable, children and the elderly.

Driver Monitoring

These cameras have facial recognition and can identify distractions in drivers who are taking their eyes off the road. They can also detect driver fatigue and will request you to pay more attention to the road.

Lane Assistance

Improper lane changes are definitely in the top most common reasons for automobile accidents for all vehicle types. As the statistics for these types of accidents rises, technology has followed. There is a feature that can help you with blind-spot detection for lane switches, but that’s not all.

Lane Departure

It’s pretty common for drivers to accidentally veer into another lane because of distraction or sleepiness. This feature will notify the driver if the car is departing from a lane into another one. While certainly an advancement in car safety technology, the car will not drive itself. Depending on the car, this notification could be anything from an audio message, to a dashboard light, to a seat buzzer.

Lane Keeping Assistance

Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA) is a giant step in car safety. This self-driving feature will allow the car to take slight control if the driver is not maintaining the lane. It will tug and move the steering wheel just a little to keep the car centered in the lane.

Forward Collision Warning

While rear-end collisions are the most common, forward collisions are usually the most deadly. This technology provides drivers with a Forward Collision Warning if there’s a possibility you may crash head-on with another driver. This technology will sometimes be complemented with an emergency braking feature.

Emergency Braking

Using sensors and cameras, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) can sense an oncoming crash with another vehicle. A warning of the danger will be sent to the driver, and if there’s no response, then the car will apply

Improper brakes or late braking is a common cause of car accidents, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration thinks this technology will significantly decrease the number of auto accidents on the roads.

Dynamic Brake Support is slightly different in that if you apply brakes, but without enough force, the car will supply you with extra support to avoid the crash. If a possible crash is detected, but the driver does nothing, then the car will take control and brake in time for the collision to be avoided.

911 Notification

Automatic crash notification is a feature that can sense if your car has been involved in an accident. If this is the case, it will notify emergency personnel of the accident, along with your location. A feature such as this increases your chances of survival if involved in an accident and will get first responders on the scene as soon as possible.

In a perfect world where people are mindful while driving, we wouldn’t need these technologies. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world—far from it—and people incessantly allow their phones, radios, food, and passengers to distract them from the road. This has resulted in countless deaths, but thankfully technology is catching up and helping minimize these numbers. Remember to supplement these features by wearing your seatbelt and never traveling more than five miles per hour over the speed limit to lower the chances of a fatal accident.

Staying safe on the road does not need to be complicated. You just need the right features in your car to ensure no harm falls on you, your loved ones, or the car itself. By making sure your vehicle possesses these technologies, you’ll have more peace
