
Actress Iman Vellani has been tapped to play the role of Ms. Marvel in an upcoming Disney+ series based around the superhero. The 18-year-old actress will become the first Muslim to play the role in the Marvel Universe on the television side. With Ms. Marvel expected to be added to the movie universe, she could become the first Muslim woman to play the riole on the big screen as well.
Joining the upcoming Disney+ series, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah of Bad Boys for Life are expected to direct a few episodes of the series. The Walking Dead‘s Meera Menon and Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will also join the Bad Boys directorial duo. Also working behind the scenes, Bisha K. Ali will work as the series’ head writer. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will also act as a producer for the series.

Ms. Marvel will be Iman Vellani’s on screen debut. Previously,Vellani has had dreams of joining the industry as a filmmaker. Last year, she was selected as a member of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Next Wave Committee.
“Speechless and excited! Wish me luck,” she wrote on Instagram after sharing the news.
There is no word as to who will join the series alongside Vellani.
