Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert began the season by missing a week due to some knee soreness. About three weeks later, he missed another week due to more knee soreness in the same knee. Now it appears Shumpert will be sidelined indefinitely when he undergoes knee surgery.
The Cavs announced the news of Shumpert’s surgery on Thursday evening.
Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert (left knee effusion) was reevaluated following Tuesday’s game by team physicians Dr. Richard Parker and Dr. James Rosneck. Due to ongoing symptoms, he will undergo arthroscopic surgery Friday morning at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health. His status and timetable will be updated post-surgery.
Shumpert will miss about 2 months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

Shumpert has played in only six games this season with his last appearance coming late in the Cavs win over the Philadelphia 76ers. He only played seven minutes in his last contest.
Shumpert was a target for some trade rumors during the offseason but nothing ever came out of it. He was linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets as the Cavs looked to shed some salary and the Wolves and Rockets both looked to add some guards to their new look rotations headed into the season.
