Idris Elba is set to join an all-star cast in the film adaptation of the classic Broadway musical ‘Cats’. The ‘Wire’ actor will join Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden & Ian McKellen in the film that will be directed by Tom Hooper.
The production is set to start in 2019 and is slated to release on December 20th of the same year. More of the cast to be announced a later date and the production of the project will be carried on by Universal Pictures.
For those of you who may not know the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical:
The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The first performance of Cats was in 1981.
Elba’s acting is not to be put in question. While I’m not sure how good of a singer he is, I’m sure a voice actor can handle that situation. He is set to play Macavity, a master criminal and a key role in the film and a role he certainly has the experience for.
