There were some high hopes for Ian Mahinmi with the Washington Wizards after a career year in 2015-16. He registered career-highs across the board in his final season with the Indiana Pacers and many Wizards fans hoped he would come to Washington DC and do more of the same with some more talented players around him. Mahinmi signed a huge four-year, $64 million deal last summer with the Wizards. Unfortunately, the injury bug bit Mahinmi right in the legs.
He played 31 regular season games and five postseason games last year, both the lowest amounts since his second season in the NBA. Injuries played a major part in Mahinmi missing time. He played only five games total to start the season due in part to a knee injury and the subsequent PRP treatment he received. Then he missed time to end the 2017-18 campaign and the start of the playoffs because of a calf issue.
As the Wizards push forward with the face of the franchise John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter all signed to long-term deals, they need to put the right pieces around them to succeed. A healthy Ian Mahinmi would go a long way towards making a difference in DC but it appears he’s not quite healthy yet.
Wizards head coach Scott Brooks revealed Mahinmi underwent a ‘minor’ knee procedure. Following comes from Candace Buckner of the Washington Post.
Scott Brooks revealed Ian Mahinmi had a "minor" procedure on his knee (doesn't know which one) following the season. Mahinmi down to 238 lbs
