As reported by Deadline, Hulu has ordered the development of a new series called The Dropout starring Kate McKinnon. The limited series will chronicle the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes, founder and former CEO of Theranos. The Holmes led company is most well known for its false claims to revolutionize the health industry. As a result of her false claims, Holmes is facing a variety of fraud charges that could land her up to twenty years in prison. Most recently, HBO aired an in depth documentary about her rise and fall.
Kate McKinnon will play the role Elizabeth Holmes in the limited edition series. Deadline reports that the series will last anywhere from six to ten episodes. As it stands now, the series will be based largely off of the ABC podcast about Holmes rather than the HBO documentary. The series’ working title is The Dropout.
This new project will be a change in direction for McKinnon who is best known for her role on Saturday Night Live. However, she has attempted to pivot to features like Danny Boyle’s Yesterday. Going forward, we will learn more about the show’s cast and potential release date
