So the New York Knicks are taking their next step into becoming half decent NBA team. They have their head coach in Jeff Hornacek, but we all know that having a half decent head coach on the sideline won’t make you a Playoff team. They now need to look for some free agents. But that won’t begin officially until July 1st.
And because free agency doesn’t start until then, we can continue to poke and prod the actions New York have taken. Cue Hubie Brown who has weighed in on the current state of the Knicks, a team he has coached.
“The hiring of anybody taking over a bad team that has limited talent and needs definite additions at key positions, you have to be lucky and fortunate that the players who are there can buy into the system and give it 100 [percent] every single night,’’ Brown told The Post over the weekend at the Western Conference Finals in Oklahoma City. “I would expect he comes in and gets that. I know they’ll be more accountable. That’s key anytime you come into a bad situation. You’re not going anywhere without accountability.’’
We all know that good ol’ Hubie Brown isn’t saying anything new. We know Hornacek won’t take them to the promise land with just him and the team that’s there now.
We will see in due time what the Knicks will present Hornacek come training camp. Hopefully it’s more than just Melo and Kristaps.
