The past few months have been a bit of a setback for the popular app, HQ Trivia. Since peaking as the App Store’s second most popular app in February, HQ Trivia has dipped as far as the 253rd most downloaded app in the App Store. In December, the app struggled so much that HQ Trivia was forced to suspend service in the U.K. in December. Making matters worse, HQ Trivia’s CEO, Colin Kroll, passed away suddenly in December after an alleged overdose. Given the app’s setbacks in recent months, HQ Trivia is looking to move forward in the new year.
Originally scheduled to launch in October, HQ Trivia has launched its newest venture, HQ Words. Similar to Wheel of Fortune, the new game from HQ challenges users to guess popular phrases one letter at a time. HQ trotted it out the game with an inaugural round hosted by HQ Trivia CEO, Rus Yusupov, on Christmas Eve. The new game is scheduled each night at 9:30 PM EST.
After the change became public, HQ Trivia CEO, Rus Yusupov, stated, “HQ Words is the most interactive experience we’ve ever made.” He later added, “Intermedia Labs is poised to captivate the world with a revolutionary experience that will bring people together in new ways around live mobile video.” The game can be found in the App Store under the name “HQ – Trivia & Words”.
