History.
It’s a simple word, but its the most appropriate word to describe what’s taking place on Friday, July 11th at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. For the third time in less than five years, two future International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees — Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano — will meet in the center of the ring and go to war. Katie Taylor has emerged victorious in the previous two bouts, but that has done little to sway the public or the sports books into believing she will win a third time. However, Taylor isn’t impacted by who thinks she may win or lose. Rather, she’s just here for a challenge.
“I’m taking the fight again because I love the challenge of this. I want to take the best fights. It doesn’t really matter to me, I just want to take the biggest challenges, the biggest fights in women’s boxing and after the last fight, this was still the biggest fight in women’s boxing,” Taylor said during Wednesday’s press confernece at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
While the focus is on Taylor and Serrano as they fight for the undisputed super lightweight title, this is not only the biggest fight in women’s boxing, but this is also the biggest card in women’s boxing history. For the first time, an all women’s boxing card will headline the big room at Madison square Garden. Seventeen titles will be on the line throughout the night, multiple Olympians will be in the ring and thousands of fans will scream as a collection of trailblazing women set the standard for years to come in the sweet science.
