When the Houston Rockets fired Kevin McHale after a poor start of the season, we all raised our eyebrows wondering if it was premature. Personally I think everytime somebody gets fired that early I find it hasty. If you have someone and you committed, trusting him with that job. The least you can do is give him half a season.
But no point dwelling now, it is time to watch these Rockets get swept and then look for a new head coach. The coaching mill is already moving, with Tom Thibodeau looking like he’s going to Minnesota and the Nets already getting their new coach. The Rockets are setting their sights on JVG, Jeff Van Gundy.
Jeff Van Gundy has been diligent in considering potential coaching situations in which he can have a strong working relationship and shared vision with a potential team’s current GM and owner, league sources said.
Jeff Van Gundy is at the top of the Houston Rockets’ list of potential candidates, league sources said. Jeff Van Gundy resigned as Rockets coach in 2007 after four seasons and still lives in Houston.
The Rockets won’t begin a coaching search until the team’s postseason ends.
Jeff Van Gundy doesn’t discuss jobs with teams who have a coach in place, and J.B. Bickerstaff has been the Rockets’ interim coach since the firing of Kevin McHale in November.
Well by the first paragraph about having to be on the same page with the GM and owner, JVG won’t be Rockets head coach anytime soon. I mean the Rockets owner recently said James Harden should be the MVP, are you joking? And I never know where Daryl Morey is so have fun with that interview Jeff.
