Recently, there have been rumors that Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey’s future with the team isn’t set in stone, and that the team will “re-evaluate” this offseason. According to Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, that isn’t the case. From Mark Berman of Fox 26:
Alexander said a recent ESPN report that said general Daryl Morey “faces some uncertainty” about his future is not accurate.
“There is no uncertainty,” Alexander said. “Daryl is with the team. We evaluate everybody, but right now things aren’t changing.
“There’s no uncertainty about his future.”
Morey, who has been GM for the Rockets since 2007, has a reputation as being good at his job. He received universal praise for acquiring James Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012, and again for signing Dwight Howard in 2013.
Rumors of Morey’s job being in jeopardy likely come from Houston’s disappointing season. Just one season after making it to the Western Conference Finals, the Rockets fired head coach Kevin McHale early in the season, and finished with a record of 41-41, barely slipping into the playoffs.
It’s not surprising to hear that rumors of Morey’s job being in trouble are false. After all, he’s a good GM, and one poor season by the team doesn’t change that.
