George Kambosos Jr. will reportedly challenge IBF Super Lightweight Champion Richardson Hitchins at the Theater at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 14, 2025 in New York, New York.
Hitchins won his first world title on December 7, 2025 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He beat previous titleholder Liam Paro by split decision with two judges scoring the fight 116-112 in his favor. Prior to beating Paro, the Brooklynite earned three consecutive wins against John Bauza, Jose Zepeda and Gustavo Lemos.
Kambosos Jr. upset Teofimo Lopez Jr. to win the lineal lightweight title on November 27, 2021. Since then, he’s fell short in three out of five fights, including losses against Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko. However, he managed to bounce back with a decision win against Jack Wyllie in Sydney, Australia last month.
“[Madison Square Garden has] been good to me,” Kambosos Jr. tweeted. “[This] ain’t nothing new. [I’m] 2-0 [at MSG]. [I’m] ready [to be] 3-0! Happy Hunting Ground! I love New York City! That’s my city. Stay tuned.”
Hitchins has also been successful at MSG and in his hometown of New York. He beat Bauza in 2023 for his first win at MSG and he’s also 8-0 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
