On Monday, August 4, 2025, A24 unveiled the star-studded trailer Spike Lee’s newest film starring Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, and Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers.
“When a titan music mogul is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma,” the film’s description reads.
The film brings two of Hollywood’s most decorated stars, Washington and Lee, for their first film since 2006’s Inside Man. The two have also worked together on Malcolm X, Mo’ Better Blues, He Got Game, and Bamboozled. However, their latest joint effort introduces a new, fellow New Yorker — Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers.
In Highest 2 Lowest, A$AP Rocky plays the role of Yung Felon, an emerging artist and father desperate to provide a better life for his family. This isn’t the first time that the Harlem native has appeared in a major picture, but it is the first time he’s gone toe-to-toe with an Academy Award winner in Denzel Washington. However, Lee says the rapper and actor held his own with the Hollywood icon.
“Don’t sleep on A$AP. In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe-to-toe,” Lee told Jimmy Fallon. “What’s interesting is, even before I got involved with this film, I always thought that A$AP looked like he could be Denzel’s son. There’s a big resemblance. So when you see it on the screen, it adds an element of father and son.”
Rocky and Washington will have their time in the limelight when Highest 2 Lowest debuts in theaters on Friday, August 15, 2025. Until then, check out the trailer below.
