David Harbour Reveals When The Hellboy Reboot Will Begin Filming.
Actor David Harbour (Stranger Things) recently shared with the Wrap that the Hellboy reboot, in which he is playing the title character, will begin filming in September of this year. He elaborated with the Wrap explaining the thinking behind the reboot.
“It’s good. It’s a whole new thing. I’d always been a fan of the comics and there’s a darker tone to it and I think in the climate we have now there’s kind of a darker… a desire for more of that… the script is good and this guy Neil Marshall is directing who’s really good and the aesthetic is great.”
Harbour continued on by explaining why he’s so excited to play the character.
“It’s a character that I love, and sort of in the way, I think Mike [Mignola] and a bunch of other people saw me in ‘Stranger Things’ and wanted me to play Hellboy and I think he has some parallels to him. I think he’s another complicated anti-hero who is not strictly good or bad, he’s just trying to do the right thing. I think he’s a demon, he’s crazy, and he’s also sweet and vulnerable and neurotic […] so there’s a lot of complexity there.”
The Hellboy films and comics have a dedicated fan base with fans as recently as this year petitioning Guillermo Del Toro to make the third film in the original franchise. Guillermo has been on record as saying that he would have loved to make the movie, but he and the studio couldn’t agree on the budget. Fans should take solace in the fact that both Del Toro and Ron Pearlman have recently come out in support of the new project. With Harbour and Pearlman even having dinner recently to discuss the character more in depth.
