LeBron James was a member of the Miami Heat from 2010 until his recent departure in 2014 to rejoin his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.
The NBA schedule makers are smart, and wisely scheduled a game between the Cavaliers and Miami Heat in Miami to mark the return of the King to South Beach.
Now, this game got a tad bit more interesting.
Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:
The Heat will play a video honoring LeBron James when he returns to face Miami on Christmas, a source told Yahoo Sports.
A few things. First, this is a classy move. I commend the Heat, their owner Micky Arrison and Pat Riley for stepping up to do this to honor a man who brought back some glory to their organization and won 2 out of the franchises 3 NBA Championships.
Second, isn’t this a little too soon? It feels like LeBron JUST started playing back home in Cleveland and left Miami like a month ago? Granted he left in the summer, but it fails in comparison of time along the lines of what the Sacramento Kings did to honor Peja Stojakovic or what the Raptors did for their All-time great, Vince Carter. Both of those guys have been gone for 5 plus years. LeBron? Barely 5 months.
Finally, how are the fans going to react to this? What if they boo the whole time and LeBron goes out there and just snaps on the Heat. That will make for an interesting contest.
Only time will tell, one thing is for sure though, all of the eyes in the basketball world will be on the King’s return to his old throne in south beach.
