Michael Beasley came back to the Miami Heat for his third stint with the organization to try and fill the void of Chris Bosh going down for the season. He was originally signed to a 10-day contract by the Heat on February 26 to help the team in their playoff push.
So far so good for Beasley who has appeared in 6 games with the Heat this season, averaging 10.5 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game and 23.6 minutes while shooting 44.6 percent from the field.
Official press release from the Miami Heat.
The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed forward Michael Beasley to a second 10-day contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In Miami’s last 2 games, he posted 13 points, all in the fourth quarter, on Friday against the Washington Wizards. Then he had his best performance yet with a season-high 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block on Saturday versus the Sacramento Kings while being the primary defender against All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins.
Heat have gone to more of a ‘small ball’ style of play with Beasely recently being the center every time they switch to the smaller lineups. He might be featured even more due to an undisclosed injury to veteran big man Udonis Haslem, as well as an nagging ankle injury to Hassan Whiteside.
The biggest difference with Beasley this time compared to his previous 2 stints with the Heat, is his defense. He has stepped up as a role player providing effort on the defensive side of the floor when they need him most, especially when they ask him to play out of his natural position. Beasley is still scoring and that’s never been the issue but this time around it seems like Beasley’s head is on straight and he may be getting another contract soon, for the remainder of the season and beyond.
