The NBA Summer League is in full swing. A time for all of us to watch the new talent to strut thier stuff. We’ve already seen some great performances from people such as Frank Kaminsky and Stanley Johnson. Miami Heat’s Justise Winslow is also a player that had a great debut. 15 points off 4-8 shooting, showed his defensive prowess. That’s a good start in my book. The Miami Heat agree with me as they praise the new blood.
”A Swiss Army knife,” is how Spoelstra described him.
”I almost forget sometimes that he’s only 19,” Heat guard Tyler Johnson said. ”Some of the things that he’s shown, he seems very mature. He doesn’t seem like somebody coming in wide-eyed.
”He seems like somebody who can step in and be ready to play. Obviously there’s a lot of development and it’s going to take a while to get acclimated coming from college to the NBA.
”Every rookie goes through that transition, but he’s good. He’s really good.”
”I just try to do everything,” Winslow said. ”I try to distribute, make plays for teammates and myself. And so however that comes, whatever position I’m doing it at, it doesn’t matter to me. Kind of play position-less basketball, like Coach Spo says, and make it work.”
I can’t wait to see this guy grow. He’s a player that can be a lock down defender. Which is always something that the Miami Heat will accept with open arms and has an offensive set that can easily be worked on. He’s a great cutter and will be great at getting those And-1’s in the paint. He showed off his shooting in the Heat’s Summer League win against Indiana so that looks very promising.
A Swiss army knife indeed.
