Beno Udrih short tenure as the backup point guard for the Miami Heat has possibly come to an end. Udrih was acquired by the Heat in a midseason deal that saw former Heat point guard Mario Chalmers was sent to the Memphis Grizzlies and in return Udrih came to the Heat. It was an ideal pairing with Udrih’s small contract and his good relationship with Heat starting point guard Goran Dragic also helped.
As the Heat made a couple of small deals at the trade deadline to get under the luxury tax, it appeared that Miami would be riding this roster for the remainder of the season. Unfortunately those plans might have to change due to season-ending injuries to young guard Tyler Johnson and now Udrih’s season has come to an end.

Miami Heat guard Beno Udrih will undergo season-ending surgery on his right foot, league sources told The Vertical.
Udrih had a well-traveled international career before coming to the NBA. In 12 NBA seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, Memphis Grizzles and Miami, Udrih has averaged 8.5 points and 3.4 assists. This season the 33-year-old guard has served as the Heat’s primary backup to Dragic and he averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 assists per game.
Udrih’s contract expires after this season and it’s not expected that he would return to the team. He’s a little older and the Heat might be looking to use Tyler Johnson more as the backup point guard, if they re-sign him.
