Fresh off of delivering a guest verse on King’s “Ring My Line,” Headie One is back with a new release of his own. The U.K. native tapped in with Twintwo for the hard-hitting “2 Chains.” Over the course of three minutes, the award-winning artist seemingly shouts out some of his friends that are locked away while also paying homage to the top-selling artist, The Weeknd.
“I know them opp boys feelin’ it/They’re injury-prone, or they’re losin’ teammates/Middle finger to the Trident/My young boy don’t know his release date,” he raps.
“I feel like Th? Weeknd/I look in the mirror, it’s blindin’ lights/Baby said that when I step, I’m clashin’/I w?ar too much ice with ice/She wanna step out, C’s are matchin’/Gang wanna step out, GP’s matching.”
In addition to dropping a new song and working with King, Headie One has also been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award. With the help of Fred Again, he will compete against Obongjayar, Celeste, Arlo Parks and Marina for the “Best Song Musically and Lyrically” award. Winners will be announced on September 21, but you can check out the “2 Chains” video in the meantime.
