For those who enjoyed the great times of NBA, where the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant dominated from 2000-2003, it was truly a fun era. For those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to watch the games, the Los Angeles Lakers were always the team to beat, with the Sacramento Kings trailing behind in the west. Not to mention Allen Iverson’s Philadelphia 76ers. Fast forward about 14 years and the league has completely changed. Neither the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, or the Sacramento Kings are anywhere near what they were before. The Los Angeles Lakers and the 36 year old Kobe Bryant are trying to salvage any hope for a decent season, mean while the Philadelphia 76ers have started the season a horrible 1-18. The Sacramento Kings are having a surprisingly good year and are hoping to revitalize a franchise with Demarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay manning the team. No offence to either player, but this Sacramento Kings team is nowhere near what the old Kings team was. They have Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, Brad Miller, Doug Christie. They were actually a really good team, and they always competed out west with the powerhouse Los Angeles Lakers.
Now, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has told reporters that his current team, lead by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, are extremely similar to the 2001-2002 Sacramento Kings. The Golden State Warriors are playing at a comfortable 16-2 record, which is the best record in the NBA, and are riding a 11 game winning streak. The Warriors are an extremely versatile team, and although they haven’t had much playoff success with this team, it looks like this season will be an entire different story. With Andrew Bogut manning the paint defensively along with the undersized but defensive minded Draymond Green, they have legitimate interior defence. The have the best back-court in the NBA in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. They also have Andre Iguodala, Speights, Barbosa, Livingston, and Ezeli. Not to mention, that their starting power forward David Lee has been out the entire season and is hoping to make his debut soon. With Lee, this Golden State Warriors team becomes so much better and they are thinking of bringing him off the bench.
So imagine this, you have the ridiculous energy of the starting lineup, then have Iguodala and Lee coming off the bench to maintain that energy. The Golden State Warriors look scary. Look for them to become a dominant force in the playoffs.
